Deliver Meals for Area 10 Agency on Aging

The Area 10 Agency on Aging Home Delivered Meals program provides one hot meal five days a week to our senior clients. We currently have routes in Bloomington, Ellettsville, Spencer and Unionville and will soon be creating a route in Harrodsburg. Deliveries are picked up from one of our congregate meals sites. I am in need of drivers and subs to pick up and deliver meals for several routes. The routes generally contain anywhere from nine to twenty clients and take about 1-2 hours to complete. Those interested can volunteer to do a route every day, once a week, once every other week or several days per week depending on their desire and availability. Deliveries are made in the morning from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
Delivering meals and/or groceries is fun and satisfying. Our clients are in great need of our services and are very appreciative. Meeting them has been the highlight of my job with Area 10. For more information please contact Laura Kray, Nutrition Assistant, Area 10 Agency on Aging, 812-876-3383 ext. 553, lkray@area10agency.org.

Volunteer at Area 10 Agency on Aging Food Pantry

The Area 10 Agency on Aging Food Pantry provides two bags of groceries once a month to low income homebound seniors. We deliver groceries to the Ellettsville area the third Wednesday and Thursday of the month from Area 10 at 630 W. Edgewood Dr. in Ellettsville. Our Bloomington deliveries are done on the fourth Wednesday and Thursday of the month, currently from Girl’s Inc. at 1108 W. 8th St. in Bloomington. Drivers and subs are needed to pick up and deliver groceries for several routes. The routes generally contain anywhere from four to eight clients and take about 1-2 hours to complete. Volunteers should be able to lift and carry groceries.

Volunteer At An Elementary School

SOCC cares about children and we want to put that care into action. In just about an hour per week you can make a difference in the life of a child. Volunteers help in classrooms listening to children read, helping with math or whatever the project is for the hour. You can choose the school, day of the week and the time of day in which you volunteer. Opporutnities are also available for the Free Friday Market at Templeton and overseeing the Salad Bar at Fairview. The Salad Bar is a great time to take along your best bud and serve together.

General information is being collected now and volunteers will be matched with teachers and opportunites over the next few weeks. You should expect to be volunteering by mid September.

Backpack Project was a big hit!

Thanks to all the volunteers from SOCC and our community who helped make the Backpack Project a huge success. Nearly 300 children received backpacks, school supplies, new socks, and gently used clothes. While they waited kids enjoyed crazy contests to win more back to school prizes.

It's great to see the community of churches and organizations come together with Salvation Army for this event.

Volunteer at The Pourhouse Cafe

The Pourhouse Cafe is an outreach ministry of SOCC. Volunteers are needed to fill some fun, exciting roles.
1) The Pourhouse Cafe is partnering with B'town Beans to serve coffee at all the IU home football and basketball games. Volunteers are needed to walk around selling coffee at the games. Watch the game for FREE!
2) Volutneer behind the counter running the register and serving coffee. A PH employee will be working with volunteers so you will not have to make sandwiches or specialty drinks unless you really want to. Volunteer any day, evening, or weekend including Sunday.
