SEVERAL PROJECTS NEEDING VOLUNTEERS

We have several upcoming projects in need of volunteers. Please read on -

1) A woman in Ellettsville who is wheelchair bound is in need of someone to build a ramp. She has secured the funds through St. Vincent DePaul so the project would include assessing the project, meeting someone from SVD at a lumberyard to purchase the materials, and to build the ramp. Contact Lyne at lbrown@socc.org or 334-0206. I need to find someone (or a group) for this project right away.

2) The flood relief project in Stinesville from a few weeks ago was cancelled due to weather. This project needs to be rescheduled but we are in need of a project manger. A date will be set when we have a leader. Monroe County Long Term Recovery personnel will be on site providing direction so the project manager will be serving as coordinator for SOCC volunteers. The project involves cutting up a tree and stacking the firewood and carrying debris to a dumpster. A Saturday morning would be enough to finish the project. . If you want to be notified of the date of this project or can lead this team let me (Lyne) know.

3) MASTER Provision Clothing Drive SORT & PACK is scheduled for Saturday, June 5 from 8 - 1. This is a HUGE project and we will need about 200 people to make it happen. We'll be in the gym so it is a great family project. Sign-up in the foyer on Sunday or at http://www.tfaforms.com/156858. Volunteers are also needed on Friday, June 4 at 5:00 to unload the trailer.

4) Templeton Elementary School - We've had several volunteers spend hours at Templeton helping to get their gardens cleared of weeds. We've made great progress but it's an ongoing project. There is a group for Bloomington Hospital working there on Friday June 4 from 5 - 7. Because of the Clothing Drive on Saturday June 5 we are not organizing a team for this project. However, if you are unable to help on Saturday you are invited to work at Templeton with the teachers and hospital volutneers pulling weeds. Show up at the school between 5 & 7pm.

5) Don't forget to clean out your closets and bring you clothes to the MASTER Provisions trailer this month or bring it with you on June 5 when you come to SORT & PACK.

Contact Lyne Brown for details on any of these proejcts at lbrown@socc.org or 334-0206.

MASTER Provisions Clothing Drive

During the month of May we are collecting all seasons of clothing and shoes to be distributed to impoverished countries through MASTER Provisions Ministry. A semi-trailer will be in the front parking lot during the month and items can be placed inside the trailer or in the bins at doors 3, 5, & 20.

VOLUNTEER NEED: On Saturday, June 5 we have the task of sorting and packing all the donations into large bags and then loading them back onto the semi-trailer for shipment. Sign up at http://www.socc.org/outreach/clothing-drive.html.

Volunteers are also needed on Sunday mornings to staff the semi trailer. For details contact Lyne at lbrown@socc.org or 334-0206.

This is a great opportunity for your small group, SS class or family to serve together.

It looks like the rain might be moving out in time for our 9 - noon work day. We'll be moving some plants, raking, weeding and mulching. Come join us, even if you can only stay for an hour. Don't forget your gloves. Meet at the school at the corner of Henderson and Hillside.
